Transcriptions
The parish registers of Nottinghamshire are held by Nottinghamshire Archives. The Society has a long term project to transcribe all of the baptism and burial registers and publish the transcriptions.
To date, some 854,000 baptism records and 526,000 burial records have been transcribed.
These transcriptions are in addition to the 345,000 marriage records that the Society members have indexed.
You can see the complete list of what we have published so far by clicking this link. This link is to a document in pdf format. You will need an application, such as Acrobat® Reader, or a suitable plug-in for your browser to look at it.
The project would welcome help with transcribing, proof reading and corrections, as well as general management.
Microfiche copies of the registers from Nottinghamshire Archives are transcribed, record by record, into a spreadsheet. To help with this work you will need a fiche reader and a computer with a spreadsheet application. The Society may be able to lend you a fiche reader if you do not have one.
Each spreadsheet is printed out and the printed copy compared with the original fiche in the proof reading stage. Again, you will need a fiche reader and computer with a spreadsheet application for this phase of the work.
Once the proof reading is complete, the original spreadsheet is corrected and then entered into the database ready for publication. For this phase a computer with a spreadsheet application is needed.
General management tasks include printing spreadsheets, entering data into Microsoft® Access® databases.
